You've Brought Them Up Well Ma'm!

Another Traffic Signal. Another Traffic Jam. Another story to tell. Do not know why I seem to be witnessing the most touching events at traffic signals these days. May be because that is when I stop obsessing about myself and my own and actually get a peek into the life of complete strangers who, in that one moment, make a place in my heart forever.

Philosophy apart, here goes.

Coming back from a meeting with old friends, I was in a happy space. Reyansh was fast asleep in my lap and looked like an absolute angel with a slight smile on his face as he happily snuggled into me. A cool breeze was blowing across my face and I sat back with my eyes half closed to enjoy a moment of blissful silence so rare to a new mother.

Suddenly, the sound of loud music jarred my ears and woke up Reyansh who started squirming. As I turned around to see what it was, foul cigarette smell assaulted my nostrils. Actually, four young boys had pulled up in a car next to ours with cigarettes in their hands and high octane music blaring out of their music system; Laughing and chatting, they were oblivious to the world around them, or so I thought.

How wrong I was! Even before I could react or make an angry remark, one of the boys noticed Reyansh and nudged the others. Immediately, the volume of music was considerably reduced, the cigarettes moved away and the windows raised up to prevent residual sound or smell from coming out. Not only that, the one closest to us raised his hand seemingly to apologize for disturbing the baby!

To say that I was surprised would be an understatement. I had thought of them as spoilt brats of over-indulgent parents but the young ones bowled me over with their courtesy and road ethics. To the mothers who brought these sons up- Congratulations ladies! Your kids do complete justice to your teachings. You've truly brought them up well Ma'm :)
